Top 100 Wines for 2015 – James Melendez / James the Wine Guy

Slide1

In the past half decade of have probably had the best opportunity to taste wines from regions near and far.  Being a wine drinker is to expect diversity but that diversity has to some degree always been present–however–today we live in the best of wine times–quality and artistry have never been better.

Unlike publication like Wine Spectator I don’t rank the first wine as the best wine of the year–you will see alphabetical listing of the top 100 wines.  I have always worked to distinguish myself from all other publications and wine reviews.  Points of difference in wine reviewing is essential and I think this captures an ecumenical sensibility.

I want to celebrate wine and not place one so elusively above the other.  Now the point scores speak of another way to rank.  I would hate to pick one wine to be the “best wine of the year” I feel that is a task that is not just possible–it simply not wise.

I have videos for many of the wines I have placed on the top 100 list.
This is a great year for diversity:  I have wines on this list from Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Georgia, Lebanon, Spain, Turkey, Italy, Hungary, New Zealand, Germany, South Africa, Slovenia, Morocco, Argentina and the US (California, New York, Virginia, Washington and Oregon).  I like this list not just for the diverse and eclectic mix but because fundamentally they are not the same varieties or styles–they are all different and give the most worldly snap shot I have ever had on my Top 100 Wines yearly list.  I hope you get to try a sip of each–they are quite well worth the effort to find and taste.

This list is a way to remind me and for even regions to seek me out while I seek them out.  Australia is lacking in terms of tasting opportunities.  I hope to taste many more wines from Australia.  I do hope to be tasting more French, Germany, Austrian and Croatian wines as this year I tasted too few.

Thank you for your support and the best of the holiday season to you and yours!

¡Salud!

James

About James Melendez

I love wine and have had the privilege of working in the wine trade as a senior national wine marketing manager for a wine, food and home goods retailer in 30+ US States. I executed into making wine experiential and made 'wines of the world' programme work in a highly regulated framework for a successful business proposition. My "wine" site also incorporates those categories intimately involved with wine such as food, travel and lifestyle. This site incorporates my many dimensions of interest. I love to review and also talk about many aspects of wine. I have been privileged to visit many wine countries and find them enthralling no matter how many times I visit. I love all aspects of wine: viticulture, history, winemaking, brand development, wine regions and many more aspects. This is a living tradition that needs documentation, education, reporting and reviewing. Do I have favourite varieties and styles? I love so many varieties and often it is situational and yet there are time honoured wines that I anticipate and I am passionate about. I like all colours of wine and all styles. I have had a mad passionate affair with sparkling wines and they are always top of mind. Wine nourishes our soul and is the key to connecting with other people at our dinner table.
