Hocus Pocus Willamette Valley Pinot Noir – 2006 – 8.8 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A nice homage to Burgundy; vitreous, low alcohol 12.5%–enjoying this wine is easier. The wine exhibits cherry, baking spices, freshly cut wood, and Porcini mushroom.

¡Salud!

Chartogne-Taillet Champagne N.V. – 9.2 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A Champagne this gives considerable Brioche, dry almond and baked Comice pear; a delight; finishes with crisp luxuriant green apple.

¡Salud!

Vegas 3 Castillo y Leon Red Blend – 2004 – 7.8 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

Vegas 3 is a blend of Tempranillo 30%, Cabernet Sauvignon 40% and Merlot 30%; first off the wine has a synthetic closure; most disappointed (always a one point deduction). This wine took about 20 minute to open up; this wine exhibits mild red fruit, some nutmeg and allspice; a little cedar.

¡Salud!

Peter Cellars Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir – 2006 – 8.0 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

More often than not; I truly enjoy Pinot Noir from Sonoma Coast but this is one that I found to be un-even; the beginning to finishing taste differed greatly. The overall experience is a weakness and non-commitment to any specific flavor profile.

¡Salud!

Savannah-Chanelle Russian River Valley – 2006 – 8.2 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine is hidden by it’s alcohol content – 14.7% – it is very hot; not the hot from profile but from alcohol; the heat masks what fruit, spice, and other characteristics that may be hidden. Disappointed because there must be more there– Russian River Valley produces many fine Pinot Noirs.

¡Salud!
