Demystifying Wine

Kabaj Goriška Brda Rebula – 2007 – 9.2 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine a rebula with a cause is expressive; deeply golden in color — a varietal that is found in neighbouring Italy and known as Ribolla Gialla.  Very dry–low alcohol and high acid.  A very nice example of Rebula and this is fermented with native yeast and has been held 3 years.

Dry; complex, highly differentiated from other white wines; while it’s coloration might suggest a relationship to Chardonnay and yet it is orbitals away from that varietal.  Notes of winter pear, yellow citrus, white tea, nutmeg, cardamom, hint of butterscotch and almond.

#WWW World Wide Wine Day – What Day Would That Be? – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A World Wine Wine Day is certainly something that should be happening–after all there a day for almost every holiday, substance, anniversary, awareness building day—and my question is why not wine?

It would be so nice to have a day where we open up a bottle to celebrate this amazing beverage.  Wine is ancient and amazing and hallmark of civilization.  Wine is glorious and to celebrate all that it is.  Wine is still a subject for many that is clouded with so much awe and mystery.  Demystifying wine is one way to enjoying it and to have an easy on ramp for those seeking to learn about wine.  To build awareness for the many produces and marking difference in wine regions, wine artisans and varietals.

A World Wide Wine day is a way to celebrate not only the many varietals, wine producing regions, styles and states of wine.  A day to perhaps open up a bottle of wine and to Tweet / write about and enjoy a wine that perhaps you have never enjoyed before.

So my question to you is what day would that be to enjoy a World Wine Wine day?  Let me know your thoughts and let’s find a day to create and make this event happen!
