Wine Country Tasting Wish List – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

I am constantly on the pursuit for harder wine regions to taste wines from.  Even though the US is the world’s largest wine market is it on any and all levels of consideration the most complex. The complexity does not just reside in the large market base–rather it is due the most heavily regulated industry in the US–far more regulated than any other product category–and it is perhaps safe to say that wine is far more regulated in the US than any other country and albeit total combined regulation might not even stack up total US alcohol beverage control laws (40,000).But with this being said the US should be an ideal landing ground for all wines produced from around the world.  And yes many wines from abroad to reach land in the US but many do not.  I attend a lot of wine tasting per year and I do have a great access path for many wines but not all.
I do seek each year to taste a fair representation of wines from all wine producing nations and their appellations and yet many are hard to find a tasting path.

Here are a wines few that I am seeking out this year:

Wines from:

  • Lebanon
  • Turkey
  • Armenia
  • Algeria
  • Azerbaijan
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • Luxembourg
  • Liechtenstein
  • Macedonia
  • Malta
  • Moldova
  • Morocco
  • Republic of Georgia
  • Romania
  • Montenegro
  • Peru
  • Canary Islands (Islas Canarias)
  • Uruguay
  • Mexico
  • Finger Lakes
  • Slovakia
  • Serbia
  • Oregon
  • Washington State
  • Okanagan
  • New Zealand
  • China
  • Bulgaria
  • Greece
  • Ukraine
  • Puglia
  • Sicily
  • South Africa
And I have tasted wines from some of the above regions and have not had any wines from a few as well.  I want this year to be one of reach and depth of experience and to discover wines from undiscovered wine countries. And even surprising and I have mentioned in previous articles–I want to taste more wines from Australia, France (both well known regions and lesser known as well).  I tasted so few wines from Germany and Austria last year and look forward to taste more.  And I also want to keep up my tastings from regions that I consistently tastes wines from.

¡Salud!
