Tikveš Rep of Macedonia Vranec – 2010 – 9.0 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

Vranec from the Republic of Macedonia.  We live in amazing wine times–great varietals, amazing qualities and from lands like the Republic of Georgia.  Vranec a DNA relationship to Primitivo, Zinfandel and Crljenak Kaštelanski–what we don’t know is what other grapes it may have descended from.

Scent of rose garden in mid-summer, warm suede by touch, and underbrush.  Flavour characteristics of northerly fruits of Tayberry, blueberry, Marionberry; deep sense of earthiness, an essence from an amalgam of baking spices and hint of lavender.

¡Salud!

Plantaže ProCorde Lake Skadar Valley Vranac – 2007 – 9.2 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

Plum confit, cherry confit, cinnamon dust, white pepper, scent of summer herb garden.  The Vranac is a distinct wine and has been compared to Plavac Mali, Primitivo and Zinfandel thought it maybe related it is it’s own varietal.  Inkwell dark, acid rich and encapsulated with silky tannins.
