Pircas Negras Valles del Famatina, La Rioja Torrontes – 2006 – 8.7 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A slightly sweet wine with wonderful notes of lime and Meyer lemon zest and gentle notes of toasted hazelnuts.  Perfect with food or alone on a hot summer day.

¡Salud!

Forlorn Hope La Gitana Torrontés – 2008 – 9.0 – James Meléndez /James the Wine Guy

An exquisite Torrontés–cascade of acid with notes of dry fruit; green apple, Adriatic fig, cashew and white flowers.

Pircas Negras Famatina Valley La Rioja Torrontés – 2008 – 8.9 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

I like screwcap but this particular bottle the screwcap capsule came off at the same time.  Never had this happen before.  This is an organic wine and presents delightful notes of tropical fruit–guava and passionfruit, lime zest, almond and Adriatic fig.  The acid is balance and helps to make this an excellent food wine or a hot summer sipping wine.

Maipe Salta Torrontés – 2008 – 9.0 – James Meléndez /James the Wine Guy

A zesty gorgeous wine; wonderfully dry yet blissful packets of exotic fruit–gold kiwi, passion fruit, and guava; cardamom and  toasted almonds; a wine that is excellent with food and excellent as a standalone; a great value and especially in this weather easily drinkable at 13.5% alcohol it is a very approachable wine.

Familia Schroeder Sparkling Torrontés – 2005 – 8.5 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

A sparkling Torrontés?  A very interesting wine—aromatic; slivered almond, green apple, markedly different than any sparkling wine that you have experienced.

¡Salud!

Elsa Mendoza Torrontes – 2007 – 8.8 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

Torrontés is truly one of the most under-rated white wines today and this wine is also an excellent value. This is a lovely wine giving lime zest and white nectarine flesh.

Tasted at K&L Wine Merchants, San Francisco $7.99

Urban Eco Valle de Cafayate Salte Torrontes – 8.9 – 2006 – James Meléndez / JJames the Wine Guy

Torrontes is a hidden gem of the white wine world. I think it is a delightful wine with generous white rose petal notes to generous spice and other fragrant scents. This wine certainly had a most generous amount of white rose petal, gardenia, Adriatic fig, ground clove and a hint of Kaffir lime.
