Keenan wines are presenting with incredible finesse—I previously reviewed their reserve wine.  And to not be left out is their non-reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.  Dark bramble berries, summer herbs, smoked almond, black pepper and ground clove and cinnamon.

This wine is formidable with great finesse.  Well constructed and myriad of notes; reduced blueberry, grilled fennel, herbed pine nuts, chile guajillo, and pepper and anise; scent of Turkish fig, bramble, cedar and smoke.

York Creek Spring Mountain District Cuvee One Red Blend – VI – 9.0 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

According to York Creek this is predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, and other varietals such as Merlot and some of their Port grapes.  If this had a higher percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon it would un doubtingly be called a Cabernet Sauvignon and not a blend.  I wonder why the shyness when they speak of their “Port” grapes; let everyone know and I think it makes for a more interesting story.

This wine has a very continuous structure; bold and with considerable finesse; suitable with food or served by itself; notes of roasted blueberry, anise, fennel, freshly cut wood and Crimini mushroom.
