Kabaj Goriška Brda Rebula – 2007 – 9.2 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine a rebula with a cause is expressive; deeply golden in color — a varietal that is found in neighbouring Italy and known as Ribolla Gialla.  Very dry–low alcohol and high acid.  A very nice example of Rebula and this is fermented with native yeast and has been held 3 years.

Dry; complex, highly differentiated from other white wines; while it’s coloration might suggest a relationship to Chardonnay and yet it is orbitals away from that varietal.  Notes of winter pear, yellow citrus, white tea, nutmeg, cardamom, hint of butterscotch and almond.

Črnko Jareninčan Maribor White Blend – 2009 – 8.9 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

]This is a Slovenian wine from the producer Crnko and it is from the Maribor wine region in Slovenia – 40% Riesling, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Chardonnay. 11% alcohol.  Wasy drinking and easy to enjoy.  This is a dry wine and presents with notes of green citrus, hint of almond and adriatic fig and white flower petals.  A slight and natural effervescence.  A soda bottle closure makes a statement for this 1 litre bottle–this is a wine to enjoy now for a summer concert with cheese and small plates and exceptionally nice in warm weather or drink as a cocktail wine.  A that has a lot to offer for a variation in tastes.

This is $12.95 a bottle for a litre—a good value.
