Demystifying Wine

Château Bonnet Entre-deux-Mers – 2010 – 9.0 (out of 10.0) – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine is 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Semillon and 10% Muscadelle from the Entre duex Mer in Bordeaux.

Granny smith apple, lime citrus zest, nutmeg, almond; floral scent of Jasmine and honeysuckle.

If you think that Bordeaux is only expensive –this wine is proof positive that great value wines do come from Bordeaux.  No need to own a factory or Manhattan skyscraper to be able to afford good quality wines.  This wine is approximately $12-15 dollars in the US.

Shinn Estate North Fork Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon – 2007 – 8.8 – James Meléndez /James the Wine Guy

This is a well defined and structured wine; a very food friendly wine with supple acids.  This wine gives notes of almond, grass, Adriatic fig and subtle baking spices.

Roquefort Blanc- 2006 – 8.7 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A mainly Sauvignon Blanc wine with a touch of Semillon; this wine is a nice example of a wine that can hold it’s own; nice acid structure, fresh cut grass, Meyer lemon rind, and papaya. Nice as a stand-alone wine or with dungeness crab salad.

St. Jean des Graves Blanc – 2006 – 8.2 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A mainly Sauvignon Blanc wine with a touch of Semillon while it is clean, there is a heavy mineral focus and graphite sub-component. I like variation of mineral but with other interesting flavour profiles for complexity.
