Tres Pinos San Luis Obispo Tierra Blanca White Blend – 2008 – 8.5 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This white blend contains Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Gewürztraminer; a very well blended wine; no overly pronounced notes from any particular varietal; I expected some scented and floral notes but instead the wine gives notes of pineapple, guava and Meyer lemon zest.  A good value.  I go this at Trader Joes in San Francisco for $4.99.  A very food friendly wine–great value–can serve wtih food or as a stand-alone wine.

Hahn San Luis Obispo Estate Syrah – 2007 – 9.0 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A powerful Syrah not because of it’s alcohol content but because of it’s bold and gorgeous structure. Able to bridge between fruit, alcohol, spice and tannin; this wine exhibits Pasilla chile, basted red plum, crushed pecan and lingering scent of suede.
