Bodegas Vizcarra Ramos Roble Ribera del Duero 2006 – 8.9 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This Tempranillo is bold and has a sophisticated structure; the multitude of spice, roasted fruit and exotic forest notes balance the acid in this wine for a very drinkable wine as a stand-alone or wine with food. The notes exhibited are anise, cinnamon, forest leaves, Guajillo, and an amalgam of cassis, blackberry and black cherry.

Deep dark ink in coloration; silky tannins with the right amount of acid.  Red plum coulis, bread toast, Crimini mushroom, and forest floor.

Bodegas Arrocal Arroca Ribera del Duero Tempranillo – 2005 – 8.7 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This Tempranillo from Bodegas Arrocal Arrocal high in acid and might be best enjoyed with food. This wine has rich freshly picked plum, Oaxacan simmering spices, underbrush, chile Pequin, and Braeburn apple.

Bodegas Arzuaga La Planta Ribera del Duero Tempranillo – 2005 – 7.9 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

The label on this bottle carefully describes the TLC this bottle received what it didn’t mention was that there was a synthetic cork.  Synth closures are my least favourite, I always get a plastic finish on my palette.  This had a synth cork and wish it had a real cork or a screw cap.   This could have been a much more enjoyable wine if the synth closure had not come in contact with the wine.

Spanish paprika, mild black pepper, deep fleshy plum and hint of allspice.

Viña Gormaz Tempranillo Ribera del Duero – 2005 – 7.8 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A well balanced tempranillo; a drier tempranillo with some scents of spice and some deep red fruit like plum. My only issue with this bottle is that it could be better than what I had at sampling. This wine has a synth cork and my palatte can detect a synth cork easily. To me it lends distinct notes to the wine that give that mouth feel a complete closure of satisfaction to one where you realise it could have been better.
