Alfred Gratien Cuvee Brut Classique – N.V. – 9.0 – James Meléndez /James the Wine Guy

A unique Brut mainly with Chardonnay and a significant quantity of Pinot Meunier which gives a considerable brightness and lightness to the wine; also pleasant notes of Brioche, Meyer lemon zest, and toasted Marcona almond.

¡Salud!

Domaine Chandon Pinot Noir Brut – 9.0 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

This wine is 76% Pinot Noir, 22% Chardonnay, and 2% Pinot Meunier; one might expect a Rosé coloration but this wine is high Pinot Noir content wine; the bouquet is splendidly floral, wood and winter spice notes; a completely pleasant wine.

¡Salud!

Domaine Chandon Etoile Brut Rosé – 8.9 – 2001 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine is 55% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier; this is a celebratory wine; gorgeous in appearance with it’s vitreous ruby hue but a delight on the palette.  The nose immediately picks out the Pinot Noir; it’s floral and winter spice notes.

¡Salud!

Domaine Chandon Etoile Brut – 9.0 – 2001 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine is 55% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier.  It is hard to compare a Champagne with a California sparkler; the Terroir are vastly different but this is a great homage to it’s French cousin.  The classic Brut varietals work well together and give this wine generous notes of citrus zest and an amalgam of tropical fruits that ease back to it’s yeasty backbone.

¡Salud!

Domaine Chandon Carneros Pinot Meunier – 2005 – 8.5 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

I never think of Pinot Meunier unless I am drinking Champagne (I don’t even think of U.S. Sparklers). Domaine Chandon has a 100% Pinot Meunier and gives an abundance of rose petal, carnation, roasted red pepper and completely generous acid.
