Joseph Jewel Humboldt County Pinot Noir – 2008 – 8.9 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

I have had only one other wine from Humboldt County and compred with wine this wine is showing quite favorably.  Notes of cherry Coulis, cardamom, white mushroom, and nose of pink rose petal, underbrush and mid-summer garden.

Woodenhead Humboldt County Pinot Noir – 2005 – 8.5 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A Pinot Noir from Humboldt County? This Pinot Noir had familiar characteristics but the acids did not stitch together the fundamentals of the varietal. Some rose petal, Malabar freshly ground pepper, and cranberry.

Woodenhead Humboldt County Pinot Noir – 2005 – 8.2 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

Woodenhead produces many bold Pinot Noir and from appellations that often produce wondrous Pinot Noirs. This is the first Pinot Noir from Humboldt County that I have tasted. I will have to try more before I give a sweeping opinion on Humboldt County. The question becomes is this possibly the next big Pinot Noir produces region? Or will it remain a rarity? This Pinot was overly generous in cranberry; dried cherry, and some mineral.
