Artazuri Navarra – 2007 – 8.9 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine is 100% Grenach (Garnacha) and presents with a drier than expected style; slight blackberry-Mission fig, moistened earth after rain, and sweet spices.

Sangenie Vaque Priorat – 2006 – 8.8 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan; I do not have the exact varietal breakdown.  This wine is nicely scented with notes of Eucalptus and earth; and the palette detects baked blueberry, almond, sage and finishing with a delicate combination dark plum and fennel.

Found this wine at Bi-Rite Market in San Francisco $14.99 a bottle–an exceptional price for wines from this appellation.

¡Salud!

Trenza Blanco Edna Valley Albariño Granache Blanc – 2008 – 8.8 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

An very interesting blend of Albariño Granache Blanc (Trenza is Spanish for braid) on these two popular white Iberian varietals and it is the first blend that I have tasted—this wine is 14.2% alcohol.  This wine braids together a generous acid structure and imparts a pronounced minerality; this wine exhibits notes of gold kiwi, vanilla, white peppers and Adriatic fig.
