Rosa de Oro Lake County Dolcetto – 2007 – 9.2 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A wonderful homage to Italy’s Dolcetto. Rosa de Oro is producing Italian varietals in Lake County; the alcohol levels are lower than many wines in this wine region and most wine regions in California.  This wine presents with notes of cherry, fennel, white pepper, a scent of Thyme and lavender.

Palmina Santa Barbara Dolcetto – 2007 – 8.9 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

A dark brooding wine–a wine whose brethren from across the pond has some commonalities and a few differences.  This wine has both high acid and alcohol (14.7%).  The initial taste has blackberry-black plum confit, essence of rose petal, Chanterelle mushroom, and an evocative scent of dense forest.

Parusso Dolcetto d’Alba – 2006 – 8.9 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine an wonderful expression of Dolcetto. Dry, complex and inky dark and aptly suited to food. This wine gives evocative scents of Fall plum orchard, moist earth mushroom; a flavor profile of field mushroom, ground clove, chocolate, fennel, and roasted blackberry. A wonderful wine that is uniquely different from big reds like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. For me I must serve Italian food. A lovely wine.
