James David Cellars Central Coast Syrah – 2005 – 9.0 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This Syrah presents with notes of blueberry, fennel; earthen notes of mushroom and truffle cascading to delicate chocolate notes.

Syrah / Shiraz is a unique varietal that gives not just an homage to where it comes from but takes on the characteristics in ways that many other varietals do not.  This wine is a nice homage to California’s Central Coast.

Concannon Central Coast Syrah – 2006 – 7.8 – James Meléndez / Jaimes the Wine Guy

This is a low alcohol wine that is slightly vitreous; this wine exhibits mild cranberry, sweet roasted red pepper and a dash of winter baking spices.  I was disappointed in the synth cork and this deduction in points is reflected in my rating.

Concannon Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon – 2006 – 7.8 – James Meléndez / James the Wine Guy

This wine has very light tannins and a flavor profile with tart red cherry, Pippin apple and trace notes of winter spices.  This bottle has a a synth cork which I factored into this rating.  Another measure for me is I found myself struggling to pour another glass of wine from this bottle–and that is a rare event; usually a bottle empties much more quickly than I like.
