Baldacci IV Sons Carneros Merlot - 2002 - 9.0 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

March 24, 2008

Baldacci a small producer of wines quartered on Silvailerado Trail.  I was wondering on the famed Silverado Trail– I had passed this verymi small winery–you could pass this place easily but I was determined to go to a new winery and eager to make a discovery.  Carneros does produce a remarkable grape.  This Merlot is rich with extra silky tannins; cedar, bramble, truffle honey, chocolate, and simmering spice.  I wish I had purchased more bottles.  A most splendid purchase.

 ¡Salud!

Havens Carneros Merlot - 2002 - 9.0 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

October 17, 2007

Merlot from Carneros…yes..it’s true. I am a fan of Merlots from Carneros and higher elevations in Napa. Merlot seems to be having a renaissance above the valley floor. This is a bold wine, gorgeous tannins, and splendid notes of blackberry confit, cedar box, black Krim tomato, Porcini mushroom, and allspice.

Robert Sinskey Vandal Vineyard Carneros Cabernet Franc - 2002 - 8.6 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

September 3, 2007

A thick, highly viscous wine (tannins of plenty) provide a wonderful frame to stitch this wine together. This wine gives an elegant earthy tone, field mushroom, Boysenberry, spicy wood, and Enoki.

Domaine Chandon Carneros Pinot Meunier - 2005 - 8.5 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

September 3, 2007

I never think of Pinot Meunier unless I am drinking Champagne (I don’t even think of U.S. Sparklers). Domaine Chandon has a 100% Pinot Meunier and gives an abundance of rose petal, carnation, roasted red pepper and completely generous acid.

Neyers Carneros Chardonnay - 2005 - 9.0 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

August 6, 2007

A very bold Chardonnay not overpowered by it’s oak component. This chardonnay plays homage to the coolness of its Carneros beginnings. Each phasic taste was balanced, smooth, subtle and rich. This wine exhibits gorgeous acid, Kadota fig, a kiss of nutmeg, nectarine, papaya, and straw.

Buena Vista Carneros Ramal Vineyard Pinot Noir - 2005 - 8.7 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

July 23, 2007

Buena Vista Carneros Ramal Vineyard Pinot Noir 2005 presents with subtle pepper, slight cardamom and cinnamon, dark red berries and vanilla. This is a nice Pinot Noir but I was not enamored with it.
