Nuevo Mundo Maipo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Carmenère – 2006 – 8.8 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

This is an organic wine from the Maipo Valley.  This wine certainly highlights it’s birth place with a complex wine– a sturdy Cabernet Sauvignon 60% and the Chilean significant wine of Carmenère 40%.

The nose presents with freshly cut cedar and slight raisin.  The flavor gives notes of roasted blueberry, ground mace, Crimini mushroom.   The wine has superb tannins and balances evenly with acid and alcohol–a memorable wine.

Marisol Colchagua Carmenere – 2004 – 8.5 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

Carmenere the grape often mistaken as a Merlot grape has made a mark in Chile.  This wine subtle on acid has an abundance of dark cherry, plum and cranberry.

Chateau Saransot Dupre Listrac-Medoc – 2005 – 8.4 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

This wine is 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 56% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Carmenere. This wine has a complexity woven in and yet for the each varietal I could not find the wine anything other than high acid and very dry; and I love dry wines!  I could only detect flint and cinnamon.
