Sangenie Vaque Priorat – 2006 – 8.8 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

This wine is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan; I do not have the exact varietal breakdown.  This wine is nicely scented with notes of Eucalptus and earth; and the palette detects baked blueberry, almond, sage and finishing with a delicate combination dark plum and fennel.

Found this wine at Bi-Rite Market in San Francisco $14.99 a bottle–an exceptional price for wines from this appellation.

Fife Vineyards L’Attitude 39 Mendocino Red Blend – 2005 – 9.1 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

This is a Syrah, Carignane, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsaut blend; an epic homage to Rhone varietals. And who would have thought that these grapes would be from Mendocino. This wine has an intense vibrancy, a depth and character that could not be found if it was a single varietal. This is a stellar wine; amazing depth; gorgeous silky tannins; dark red fruit Coulis, cinnamon quill, chocolate, Porcini, forest floor and leather. A wine that I pine to experience again.

Buil & Gine Joan Gine Gine Priorato – 8.9 – 2001 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

This Priorato is a blend of Granache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan; this wine exhibits plenty of herbaceous notes; most pronounced are Eucalyptus and mint.  This Priorato seems to be at it’s prime; I would enjoy now.
