Château de Parenchère Bordeaux Superieur - 2004 - 8.9 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

November 5, 2007

This Bordeaux exhibits gracious notes of blackberry, truffle, smoke, leather, and Oaxacan simmering spices. Wonderful tannins for any and all. A very nice wine that shows you can enjoy Bordeaux without breaking the bank.

Chateau Chasse-Spleen, Moulis – 1990 – 9.5 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

November 4, 2007

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot.
An luxuriant wine; enveloping with gorgeous Fall baking spices, mint, minerals in a stream, rose petal, blackberry, blueberry, cedar box, suede, and Chile Pasilla.  The tannins are silky and enduring.

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac – 2000 – 9.4 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

November 4, 2007

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc.

I anticipate and look forward to each bottle of Grand Puy Lacoste that I have been blessed to taste; may seem a bit dramatic but it is a wine and winemaker that produce an amazing wine vintage over vintage; in spite of weather conditions this wine is filled with character and pure elegance. This wine is emotive and evocative and quite nearly haunting. This wine exhibits generous spice, wood, acid, and fruit; nutmeg, saffron, dark cherry, cedar, raspberry confit, Poblano chile, and clean mineral.

Chateau Saransot Dupre Listrac-Medoc – 2005 – 8.4 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

November 4, 2007

This wine is 24% Cabernet Sauvignon, 56% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot, and 2% Carmenere. This wine has a complexity woven in and yet for the each varietal I could not find the wine anything other than high acid and very dry; and I love dry wines!  I could only detect flint and cinnamon.

Chateau Thieuly Bordeaux Superior - 2005 - 8.4 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

November 4, 2007

This is a 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon wine that is very dry; almost dusty.

I have a broad spectrum of what I find compelling and enjoyable.  Each varietal has a story and has characteristics that are unique and when in a blend is that much more dynamic; I find a wines signature and get what the wine is about.

This wine while mainly Merlot is truly un-interesting.  Food is requisite with this wine.

Chateau Plaisance Bordeaux Superior - 2005 - 8.7 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

November 4, 2007

This is a nice and warm Bordeaux containing 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 70% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot; this wine is a nice balance of acid and tannin; abundant spice: marjoram, mint, cinnamon, roasted red plum, and smoke.

Chateau Marges – 2005 - 8.1 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

November 4, 2007

A Cabernet Sauvignon blend (I looked for more information on this wine and asked at the tasting) because it is from Bordeaux I believe this has to contain Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals. This wine exhibits raspberry, cranberry, and plum. This wine did not register with me as a wine that I thought remarkable. Though nothing technically wrong with this wine; as with all wines I do believe that a wine should be remarkable or at the very minimum interesting.

Chateau des Annereaux Lalande de Pomerol Gironde - 2003 - 8.2 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

August 20, 2007

Pomerol is infamous for great Bordeaux. Each time I taste a Pomerol I have great expectations and so perhaps I am too biasing each I am about to taste. Chateau des Annereaux was uneven in each phase of tasting. This wine kicked then fell quickly warmed again and then just died once more. Because there are moments of enjoyment and disappointments I do find this to be problematic; for my palette I am asking what is the true characteristic of the wine. And for those believe the “S” word is irrelevant (S=Structure); I have to point out these types of tasting experiences. This wine presents with freshly picked cherry, cranberry, cinnamon dust, cedar and paprika.
