Comte Audoin de Dampierre Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs N.V. – 9.1 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

I have been seen countless “Blanc de Blancs” at bargain prices; but getting what you pay for applies in the case of bargain Blanc de Blancs. I am a purest and love Blanc de Blancs and I always expect them to be from Chardonnay not other white varietals like Chenin Blanc, Ugni Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and so fourth. Blanc de Blancs from Chardonnay is a minimum requirement for enjoyment and a bona fide characteristic and heritage from Champagne wine makers.  A way to understand the wines is to try the bargain Blanc de Blancs made from varietals other than Chardonnay and try one that is a Chardonnay. Also, the Blanc de Blancs phrase can be used beyond Champagne–so be certain to try a Blanc de Blancs Champagne.

Comte Audoin de Dampierre Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs N.V. is quite nice; a fully developed wine with deep flavor profiles that cascade from one to the next; this wine is creamy and delicate; some Spring flowers, exotic cooking spices and finally resting on the memorable fruit characteristics of Comice pear, Passionfruit, and Papaya.

This wine is value priced. I purchased this bottle at The Wine Club in San Francisco – $36.99 – an outstanding value.

¡Salud!

Launois Cuvee Reserve Brut Blanc de Blancs – Champagne – 8.6 – James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

This Blanc de Blancs did seismically excite me. I do enjoy all styles of sparkling wine and a Blanc de Blancs generally can promise a clean and remarkable sparkling wine. This wine had a lemon finish lacking cream or even a slight toast which would have markedly improved flavor.

¡Salud!
